The series was followed by the very variable but sometimes excellent sequel 'Star Trek The Next Generation' which featured the outstandingly good actors Patrick Stewart (playing Captain Jean Luc Picard) and Brent Spiner (playing Data and up to two other characters in a given story). First-rate episodes include 'Time Squared', 'The Survivors', 'Yesterday's Enterprise', 'Tin Man and 'Remember Me'. Other shows followed but had a tendency more towards soap (Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise) than the fast moving far-fetched science fiction of the original series that owed so much of its success to the chemistry between the three lead characters.
